We can all agree that being a mom is one of the most sacrificial jobs someone can have. The job description usually involves growing a whole human inside of your own body, pushing said human out of your body, and basically attending to their every need for the next eighteen years. But all of this work is totally worth it for the one day a year when we write them cheesy thank you notes and usually give them a gift they will put under the bathroom sink and never use again, right? Wrong.
While Mother’s Day definitely shouldn’t be the only day we show appreciation for the moms in our lives, it should be a day where we go out of our way to make our moms feel loved. So this year, instead of getting your mom some gift neither of you will remember, plan a thoughtful day filled with memories that will last a lifetime!
Here’s our guide to an incredible Mother’s Day date in Colorado Springs:
Treat your mom to a cup of coffee (or a latte or whatever the heck she wants) and a yummy pastry at her favorite local coffee shop. Colorado Springs is literally full of amazing coffee shops, so if she doesn’t have a go-to, here are some of our favorites:
Take her on one of the many beautiful hikes or walks Colorado Springs has to offer. Not only is this totally free, but it’s a great time to have intentional conversations with your mom. This may seem obvious, but she is a human being and there are things you don’t know about her. Use this time to ask her questions you may not know the answers to. If you’re unsure of good hikes around Colorado Springs, check out our preferred adventure destinations (ordered by level of difficulty with “1” being the least strenuous):
Studies have shown that mom’s feel 100% more loved when you take them to brunch. Okay, maybe we made that up, but we still think it’s probably true! That’s why we think every Mother’s Day should include a really delicious brunch. Here are some of our favorite brunch spots around Colorado Springs:
Instead of getting your mom some book she already has or some bubble bath she will immediately put under her bathroom sink, get her a gift that will literally last a lifetime: family photos. If you decide to surprise her with photos for that day, make sure you set aside time in the day for everyone to get dolled up. You can also always just book a session for a later date. Here is a list of some of our favorite local photographers:
Whether your mom was the one who cooked for you growing up or not, show your appreciation for her by cooking her favorite meal. Pick up some fresh ingredients from the grocery store, put a glass of wine in her hand, and get to cooking — and make sure she doesn’t life a finger (unless she wants to, of course).
Maybe you’re not much of a cook or timing doesn’t work for to do dinner together on Mother’s Day — instead of cooking dinner, treat her to one of our food tours or get mom a food tour gift card! They can be purchased in any amount and can be applied to any tour. She’ll love it! She’ll learn about history from an expert and taste unique cuisine from various local hotspots.
Every mom loves chocolate, right? For dessert, surprise her with some gourmet chocolates from a local chocolatier! Here are three of our favorite local chocolate spots:
End the day by spending quality time however mom likes it best, whether that’s a family game night, popcorn and a movie, or sipping wine on the porch. Be sure to end the day by telling your mom how thankful you are for everything she does!
Whether you use all of our suggestions or just pick a few, make this Mother’s Day special by giving the gift of lasting memories together!
