Are you looking to put together a gift basket of tasty treats for your favorite foodie? Or perhaps just want to know where to find some of the best speciality culinary items in Colorado Springs? We’ve put together a list of just 10 amazing food-related stores we recommend you visit the next time you are out and about!
Did you know that Colorado Springs is home to the nation’s only lemonade tap house? It’s true! Head to Pikes Peak Lemonade Co. for delicious homemade lemonade with organic cane sugar. They offer a ton of great gift ideas including lemonade sampler boxes, cocktail mixes, specialty hot chocolate, and even fun mugs and tumblers. Plus, while you’re there, you can treat yourself to a lemonade all your own, served in a mason jar with a colorful (and biodegradable!) straw. They have two locations, one downtown on Tejon St. across from Acacia Park, and the other on the east side of town near Powers Blvd. and Barnes Rd.
European-style sweet cream butter, delicious, aged cheeses, and crumbly cheese curds..find them all at Sawatch Artisan Foods! This local shop is dedicated to their craft. They produce the highest quality products that even some of our favorite local restaurants source. You can spot Sawatch at farmer’s markets in the area during the summer months, or order directly from their website. Have your ordered delivered to your front door, mailed, or opt to pick it up yourself in north Colorado Springs.
Caramel apples…peanut brittle…popcorn tins…chocolate truffles…Cole’s Chocolate and Popcorn has everything any sweet-toothed foodie could ever want! Located on the north end of town near Academy Blvd. and Briargate Pkwy., Cole’s has been serving up sugar in its various forms since 2015. They also carry seasonal treats based on the upcoming holiday.
If you love to cook, a visit to Venice Olive Oil Co. near N. Nevada Ave. and I-25 is a must! They offer a large variety of extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars. While the purists will love the olive oils from around the world, the adventurers will love the flavored balsamic vinegars including jalapeño and cara cara orange. Buy individual bottles or sampler sets!
The Vino Colorado Winery at The Sweet Elephant located on the corner of 25th St. and Colorado Ave. offers more than just wine tastings. Not only can you order an espresso and lunch, but you can also pursue their artisan food items including dressings, bread, cheese, oils, and more. Their wine selection includes whites, reds, Colorado fruit wines, and dessert wines. Looking for an elevated foodie gift? Check out their gift baskets!
For quality beef and pork, look no further than Ranch Foods Direct! Catering to meat lovers in Colorado Springs and the surrounding area, Ranch Foods Direct has their own farms on which they raise, harvest, and package their products using only humane and sustainable methods. Visit their stores on Fillmore St. or E. Platte Ave. to get a variety of cuts of beef and pork, heat-and-eat meals, soups, and a selection of locally-made bread, jams, and salsas.
Many know Gather Food Studio for their cooking classes, but they also have an amazing spice shop! Best sellers include house-made Black Garlic, Preserved Lemons, and the OCC (Old Colorado City) line of spice blends. Local owners Dave and Cortney are always happy to talk shop and walk you through how to use the unique spices and herbs that you’ll discover on the shelves. While you’re there, don’t forget to grab a refillable jar of local Lockhart Colorado Honey or Ancient Groves Greek Olive Oil.
For your friends and family needing a jolt of caffeine, Switchback Coffee Roasters roasts their own coffee beans right next door to their quaint cafe. Started in 2010 by two friends who bonded over their love of a quality cup of joe, Switchbacks has been perfecting the art of roasting ever since. Buy their coffee in one of their two locations, both just east of downtown Colorado Springs. A package of freshly roasted coffee beans and a mug makes the perfect gift.
Savory Spice Shop actually started in Denver in 2004 and can now be found throughout the nation, but the location in downtown Colorado Springs is owned by a lovely local couple named Dick and Mary Frieg. They carry a huge number of herbs, spices and blends, all fresh and ready to make your next meal or bake perfect. They also carry a wide variety of local artisan foods including pastas, pickles, sauces, soups, and more. For cooks, being in Savory Spice Shop is like being a kid in a candy store!
Black Forest Brownies just launched in 2022 as a premier gluten-free bakery with one specialty: brownies! All of their brownies are single portion and come in a variety of mouthwatering flavors including peanut butter, cookies and cream, and salted caramel. Owners Jess and Ben (husband and wife) run the business together and believe in sourcing only the best ingredients. They are actually located just outside of Colorado Springs in Elbert, but you can order online. The perfect gift is their sampler boxes, which contain every available flavor.
No matter the occasion, a fun and fresh gift from one of these artisan food shops is the perfect solution for your favorite foodie. Shop local, and the next time you need a fun activity, hop on one of our food tours in downtown Colorado Springs!
