The smell of fresh baked bread, a warm croissant, or a perfectly crumbly scone – for many, a good bakery is like a home away from home. In fact, whenever we travel, no matter where in the world we find ourselves, we always manage to spend part of our trip looking for the best bakery in town. There’s really nothing more comforting than the smells, sounds, and of course, tastes of a local bakery.
Thankfully, Colorado Springs is chock full of incredible bakeries. From custom cake shops to quaint cafes, you’ll have no trouble finding a bakery to suit your needs!
Here’s our list of the top seven bakeries in Colorado Springs! Bon appétit!
Nightingale Bread is located in a defunct mid-century elementary school turned hip local hangout spot on the north end of Downtown Colorado Springs. While it’s location is a little unassuming — and you might not even know it’s there at first glance — the moment you walk through the doors, you’ll know you’re in the right place.
With fresh bread sitting behind the counter and the smell of homemade pizzas and baked goods wafting through the air, it becomes obvious — Nightingale Bread isn’t concerned in the least with being “hip” or trendy. All they care about is making really, really great bread with high-quality ingredients.
La Baguette provides the charm of a Parisian café just minutes from Downtown Colorado Springs. Located in the heart of Old Colorado City, one of Colorado Spring’s most beloved neighborhoods, this quaint cafe has been serving the local community for more than 30 years. They specialize in artisan breads and pastries — and you can’t beat their delicious French Onion Soup.
Above the bakery is the sweetest wine bar, a “casual neighborhood wine bar with upscale flair.” They serve more than 70 varieties of fine wines, imported beers, and spirits.
If you’ve been to a Colorado Springs’ coffee shop, you’ve likely tasted one of Snowberry Bakehouse’s treats. This local bakery is passionate about partnering with other small businesses in the community through “providing fresh, wholesome baked goods.” They use quality ingredients to create goodies rooted in classic recipes, while often using unique flavors and techniques to add a special twist.
While Snowberry Bakehouse doesn’t have a traditional bakery location, you can find their goods being sold in coffee shops around town, such as Switchback Coffee and Story Coffee Company. You can also join one of their semi-hands-on workshops held locally by owner and Pastry Chef, Jen Denman.
Sweet Elizabeth’s Organic Bakery is the place to be for any gluten-free, dairy-free, or nut-free folks. Their website proudly states, “We are not just a bakery, we are a community of people who understand your dietary needs” and they’re definitely delivering on that promise.
On top of selling allergy-safe baking mixes made from organic ingredients, they have a full menu that is completely plant-based and allergy-safe, serving baked goods, breads, breakfast, and lunch. The bakery is family-owned and in everything they do and make, it’s clear they have the needs of their customers’ and their families in mind.
Boonzaaijer’s Dutch Bakery is immediately warm and inviting, having the quaint environment of a mom and pop shop, while simultaneously providing some of the highest quality baked goods in Colorado Springs. The bakery has been a pillar of life in Colorado Springs for many since its founding in 1999.
Boonzaajier’s is owned by Stephen Boonzaaijer, a fourth generation baker who formally trained in the Netherlands and got his start in Colorado working as the demi-chef at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. The bakery is now well known for their delicious Dutch pastries, specialty desserts, and wedding cakes.
Delicious baked goods or intricate pieces of art? We think both! If you’re looking for the perfect customized cake for a special event or celebration, look no further than Sugarplum Cake Shoppe. This little Downtown Colorado Springs’ bakery combines delicious taste and quality ingredients with a strong value of aesthetics — so you know your purchases are going to taste as great as they look. Seriously, check out their portfolio page!
As the bakery proudly states on their website, “If you can dream it, we can bake it.” Challenge accepted!
“Your Sweet Tooth Satisfied!” Marigold Café & Bakery serves handmade cakes, breads, and delicious baked goods. Grab a slice of their Double Chocolate Mousse Cake or Hazelnut Torte or explore their unique menu, inspired by French fusion and European bistros. They use the best ingredients possible, like certified Angus Beef and fine seafood, and even provide vegetarian and gluten-free options!
Looking for a unique catering option for your next big event? Marigold can cater light sandwiches and pastries, or even a full-service formal banquet. Click here to learn how Marigold can make your next event one to remember!
